Texas Rangers’ Corey Seager to Undergo Season-Ending Surgery for Sports Hernia…

Texas Rangers shortstop and All-Star Corey Seager will miss the rest of the season as he prepares to undergo surgery for a sports hernia, general manager Chris Young confirmed Thursday.

Seager, who had been dealing with discomfort in his right hip for about a month, has been on the injured list since September 4. After visiting doctors in Arizona earlier in the week, he is scheduled for surgery on Friday.

This will be Seager’s second sports hernia surgery within the past year, this time on the opposite side from the previous operation.

Young acknowledged that although it was a difficult decision, it was the right one to ensure Seager’s full recovery and readiness for spring training. Seager, the 2020 World Series MVP, also emphasized the importance of having a healthy offseason after missing last year’s spring training due to a similar surgery in January.

“You can’t miss two offseasons,” Seager explained. “You need to be healthy, get back into shape, and have the proper buildup.” Despite his early struggles this season, Seager finished strong, hitting .278 with 30 home runs and 74 RBIs over 123 games. This marks the third straight season he’s hit 30 homers since joining Texas on a 10-year, $325 million deal.
