Rangers’ manager Bruce Bochy provides latest update on Josh Jung’s injury
The Texas Rangers continue to face setbacks in their difficult 2024 season.
After a challenging year filled with injuries and underperformance, the Rangers’ hopes of defending their World Series title have dwindled. As if matters couldn’t get worse, an injury update regarding Josh Jung has further dampened the mood.
Jung, who has had a tough 2024, will be sidelined for a few days due to wrist discomfort near the area where he previously underwent surgery, according to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com.
Manager Bruce Bochy, via Abby Jones of DLLS Sports, revealed that Jung’s wrist is still stiff and that vibrations from the bat are aggravating his hand.
Jung’s playing status for the Rangers’ remaining two games against the Seattle Mariners is uncertain, and he will consult his surgeon in Arizona on Monday with hopes of returning for the season-ending road trip.
Jung was a key contributor to the Rangers’ 2023 success, producing a .266/.315/.467 slash line with 23 home runs and 70 RBIs, helping the team win the World Series.
He continued his strong form in the postseason, posting a .308/.329/.538 slash line, hitting three home runs, and driving in eight runs.
However, injuries have derailed his 2024 season. After fracturing his wrist in April, Jung missed nearly four months, and his performance since returning has been below his previous level. W
ith the Rangers having little left to play for, it’s likely the team will prioritize his long-term health, as he remains a key part of their future.
This season has felt like a case of Murphy’s Law for the Rangers, who, despite having stars like Corey Seager and Marcus Semien, have struggled to maintain the momentum from their 2023 success.
