If Jon Rahm still has critics questioning his switch to LIV Golf, he probably can’t hear them over the sound of his burgeoning wealth.
The Spanish superstar made headlines late last year when he signed with the rebel league for a reported AUD $908 million. The move stirred up considerable controversy, especially since Rahm had previously criticized other players for leaving the PGA Tour in search of Saudi financial incentives.
If Jon Rahm had any reservations about his switch to LIV Golf, his victory on Monday morning probably dispelled them.
. This victory brought him $5.96 million, and he added a $26.8 million bonus for topping the season leaderboard. With one tournament still to go, Rahm has already amassed $52.42 million in prize money, despite only winning twice this year—once in the UK and once in Miami.
He also had to miss one LIV event and the US Open due to a toe infection. In contrast, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler needed eight wins, including the lucrative FedEx Cup title, to earn about $90 million in prize money, plus his Olympic gold medal.
With his $908 million signing bonus from November, Jon Rahm has amassed over $960 million in just 12 months. Adding in sponsorships and other earnings, it’s evident he has exceeded $1 billion since joining LIV Golf.
The golfer who once criticized LIV Golf is now clearly enjoying its rewards.
“It’s a different experience compared to other tours,” Rahm said following his Chicago win on Monday.
“But it’s also quite similar to other sports in many ways. I’ve really enjoyed it—traveling to Adelaide, Hong Kong, Singapore, and other locations in Asia and Australia has been a unique and incredibly fun experience.”
