Franny Norton, fondly known as ‘The King of Chester,’ has announced his retirement, with his final race scheduled for this weekend at the track.
A Liverpool native, Norton has mastered the unique turns of the Roodee, securing notable victories including the Chester Cup in 2019 with Making Miracles and two Cheshire Oaks in 2012 and 2019.
He told Sky Sports Racing, “It will be an emotional day, but one I’m looking forward to. With so many family and friends coming, it’s going to be a memorable event.”
Norton continued, “I’ve loved the camaraderie and banter with the lads in the weighing room. I hope to stay involved in the sport and keep seeing them around. We’ve become like a family in there.”
Reflecting on his career, Norton said, “It’s been a rollercoaster. There have been some great highlights and a period of success, but I never quite reached the very top. Still, I feel we achieved a lot.”
