Former Blackpool and Tranmere striker prevented from sealing dream move to Real Madrid

Andy Mangan’s dream move to Real Madrid has been blocked after the Spanish government denied his work permit application. The 38-year-old former Blackpool striker, who is currently a first-team coach at Stockport County, was slated to join Carlo Ancelotti’s backroom staff at the 15-time European Cup/Champions League winners.

It’s believed he impressed Ancelotti’s son, Davide – who is part of the current Real Madrid first-team coaching structure – while they worked together on their Uefa coaching badges.

Andy Mangan’s move from Stockport County to Real Madrid is off for now, as Spanish authorities have denied his work permit application. This decision ensures that the well-traveled former striker will remain with Stockport, where he will continue as part of manager Dave Challinor’s coaching staff for their upcoming League One match against Crawley on Saturday.

Mangan’s journey to becoming a target for Real Madrid began at Blackpool, where the Liverpudlian joined the Seasiders as a 15-year-old.

The then teenager would spend three seasons at the club, scoring 49 times for the reserves. He was handed his Pool debut in a Division Two game against Chesterfield in April 2004. But made only one more senior outing for the club before being allowed to leave for Accrington on a free transfer in 2005.
