Eagles Face Setback as Key Receiver Set to Miss Extended Time
The Philadelphia Eagles secured a hard-fought 15-12 victory over the New Orleans Saints in Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season, emerging victorious from a tense defensive struggle.
Saquon Barkley was the standout performer, making a significant impact in the fourth quarter.
He rushed 17 times for 147 yards and scored two touchdowns, including a thrilling 65-yard touchdown run that propelled the Eagles to a come-from-behind win after they had been trailing for much of the game.
However, the Eagles’ victory was overshadowed by injury concerns. Wide receiver and punt return specialist Britain Covey suffered a broken bone in his shoulder and is expected to be sidelined for at least six weeks, according to Eagles play-by-play announcer Merrill Reese.
While the team has yet to officially confirm Covey’s injury, he is likely headed to injured reserve, where he would miss a minimum of four weeks.
Covey had a standout season in 2023, finishing as one of the top punt returners in the league with an impressive average of 14.4 yards per return.
This injury comes at a challenging time for the Eagles, who are already grappling with a thin wide receiver corps. A.J. Brown has been out for the last two games due to a hamstring injury, and DeVonta Smith suffered a concussion following a controversial hit in the game against the Saints.
Currently, Jahan Dotson and Johnny Wilson are the only healthy receivers available on the Eagles’ active roster.
