Australia’s smallest state, both in size and population, might easily be dismissed. While it’s true they may lack depth in certain positions—something not surprising given their limited resources—they are home to some exceptional cricketers. As a result, they’ve formed a team that has exceeded my expectations significantly.
Cox is regarded as one of the best players never to represent Australia, often overshadowed by legends like Matthew Hayden, Michael Slater, and Justin Langer.
He made a name for himself in Tasmania, becoming the second-highest run-scorer in the Sheffield Shield and earning the title of best player in the Pura Cup for the 2000-01 season. Despite the disappointment of never donning the baggy green, he maintained an unwavering commitment to his state performances.
Jack Badcock was another exceptionally talented player, making his debut for Tasmania at just 15 years old. He was a standout at the state level and toured England in 1938, where he posted impressive numbers that rivaled Bradman’s in non-Test matches. While he struggled to translate that success to the national team, he did manage to score a century in a Test against England in Melbourne.
