Gerrit Cole and Juan Soto led the New York Yankees to a 4-2 win over the Oakland Athletics in 10 innings. Cole dominated, giving up just one run over nine innings, while Soto, who came off the bench due to a sore leg, delivered a crucial RBI double in the 10th inning.
This win marked the Yankees’ first game of Oakland’s final homestand.
Soto praised Cole, saying, “That’s the Cy Young,” as the Yankees ace (7-5) rebounded from a rough outing, allowing only two hits, one walk, and striking out seven in 99 pitches. Cole attributed his success to mixing aggressive pitching with well-placed balls.
Soto’s pinch-hit followed a passed ball by Shea Langeliers that allowed the Yankees to take the lead. His hit made it 3-1, and Anthony Volpe added another run with an RBI single.
Luke Weaver earned the save, keeping the Yankees four games ahead of Baltimore in the AL East.
The Athletics’ loss dampened the mood of their last homestand before leaving Oakland.
After five more home games, they plan to play in Sacramento until their expected move to Las Vegas in 2028, where they will build a new stadium.
