Earlier this year, Chelsea was linked to the situation in Germany, reportedly keeping an eye on Musiala in case he stalls Bayern’s efforts to renew his contract, which expires in 2026. Most recently, The Express highlighted Chelsea alongside Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Spanish giants Real Madrid as potential contenders for the young star.
At just 21 years old, with 171 senior appearances, 46 goals, and 34 assists to his name, it’s clear why talented attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala is on Enzo Maresca’s radar. However, the latest update spells trouble for Chelsea and their ambitions.
In a press conference on Saturday, sporting director Max Eberl commented: “We haven’t just had one meeting; we’re in talks. I’m very confident. Things are progressing, and Jamal is aware of that.”
He continued, “He’s an exceptional player, and alongside Josh [Kimmich] and others, he should become a key figure at Bayern. We’ve conveyed that to him, and now we’re focusing on reaching an agreement. I’m optimistic and see no reason for him to leave Bayern.”
These remarks echo those of club CEO Herbert Hainer, who previously told Sky Germany that he hopes Musiala can follow in Thomas Muller’s footsteps and remain at Bayern for the next 20 years.
I really appreciate Jamal and the remarkable development he’s shown over the past few years,” Hainer stated, adding that “many believe he has the potential to become the best player in the world.”
He continued, “I think he genuinely values what he has at FC Bayern Munich, and he expresses that consistently. We recognize his talent, so we’re committed to doing everything we can to keep him here for the long term.”
However, the delay in finalizing any deal is due to the complexities involved. As Christian Falk noted, if Bayern wants Musiala to be their long-term star, he will expect his significance to be reflected in his salary, his role as the face of the club, and a team structure built around him in his preferred No. 10 position.
