Texas’s Arlington (AP) – There hasn’t been a repeat World Series champion for 24 years, and Bruce Bochy has personal experience with the difficulty of winning consecutive championships or even making it back to the postseason the following year.
Bochy, who is finishing up his 27th season as a big league manager, quipped, “I should know because I’m 0 for 4.” “I’ll say it again: the hardest thing to overcome is the difficulty of winning a world title. Doing that is incredibly difficult. Many things must occur for that to occur again.”
Bochy and the Texas Rangers, the defending champions, won’t even make it to the postseason. A year after the team’s first World Series victory, they will conclude with a losing record.
