The men’s cricket team from Afghanistan made news when they won an incredible three-match ODI series against South Africa. Playing in the United Arab Emirates, Hashmatullah Shahidi and company defeated South Africa 2-1 to record a historic victory. Afghanistan lost the series finale on Sunday and was unable to complete a clean sweep despite dominating the first two games with considerable ease. The Proteas destroyed South Africa for 169 in the third game, and with seven wickets remaining, they went on to chase the score in just 33 overs.
Rahmat Shah, an Afghanistan hitter, was also strangely dismissed in the third game, which the fans witnessed. Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz, a wicketkeeper-batsman, attempted a full-length delivery from bowler Lungi Ngidi in the ninth over. Nigidi attempted to catch the ball with his fingertips but was only able to do so after the shot was made in his direction.
But that was plenty when Rahmat, the non-striker, ran for a single after the ball was diverted towards him. The ball went straight to the stumps and knocked out the bails as soon as it reached Rahmat. Rahmat had to leave for one off six deliveries after being called run out as he was out of his crease.
Speaking about the game, South Africa won the third One-Day International seven wickets thanks to Aiden Markram’s composed performance, which prevented Afghanistan from sweeping the series.
After a brief lull at 80-3, the Proteas bowled out their opponents cheaply and cruised to their target of 170, especially to an undefeated 69 from Markram.
Afghanistan had already won the first two games of the series, securing a historic victory.
