In the last match of their ODI series in the United Arab Emirates, South Africa triumphed by seven wickets after suffering two crushing losses.
The match was contested at a neutral location in Sharjah. Aiden Markram’s undefeated 69, helped by 26 not out from Tristan Stubbs, allowed them to achieve 3-170 from 33 overs in reply to Afghanistan’s modest 169.
Afghanistan defeated South Africa by 177 runs on Friday after defeating them cheaply in the opening game on Wednesday.
Even though they once again won the toss and chose to bat in the third ODI, they were unable to maintain their form on Sunday.
Again, opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s potent hitting (105 runs) dominated their innings.
When Gurbaz hit a ball back down the wicket, spinner Lungi Ngidi deflected it onto the shoulder of the stranded Shah and onto his wicket, resulting in Rahmat Shah being run out.
Afghanistan fell to 7-132 before Allah Ghazanfar’s unbeaten 31 off 15 helped them surpass 150. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi and Ikram Alikhil were slow to establish themselves and were quickly outwitted on the field.
Even with their first three batters out for 80, South Africa was always going to make it to the mark.
With Stubbs providing cover, Markram was the aggressor as their undefeated 90-run combination took South Africa to victory.
