Sam Malcolmson, a defender for the All Whites in the 1982 World Cup, passed away at the age of 77.

Scottish-born Malcolmson debuted for New Zealand in 1976 and was the oldest player in the team during the 1982 competition in Spain. Malcolmson participated in his final World Cup appearance for New Zealand, a 5-2 loss in Málaga, in the opening group encounter against his home Scotland.

Malcolmson scored twice in 15 A-international matches for the All Whites.

He became a business mentor after serving as a senior management for multiple clothing firms after his sports career. He wrote football columns for the Herald as well.
