Pep Guardiola addressed worries about Kevin De Bruyne’s injury following a recent scare ahead of the pivotal match against Arsenal

De Bruyne was replaced at half-time against Inter.

Manchester City experienced a major scare ahead of their Premier League showdown with Arsenal after Kevin De Bruyne was forced to leave the field with a hamstring injury during the match against Inter Milan. De Bruyne picked up the injury in the last five minutes of the first half and did not return for the second half, with Ilkay Gundogan taking his place.

Gundogan had two excellent chances to secure a late victory, but Inter held firm, ending the match in a goalless draw and earning a valuable point in their European campaign.

City will face Arsenal at the Etihad on Sunday, but De Bruyne’s participation is now in doubt following his early withdrawal.

After the match, Pep Guardiola confirmed that the midfielder is currently being evaluated by the team doctors. “I don’t have any updates yet; I haven’t spoken to the doctors,” he said during the press conference. “We will assess the situation tonight, and I’ll have more information tomorrow.”

City fans will be optimistic that the substitution was merely a precaution ahead of Mikel Arteta’s visit.

The opening match of the new Champions League campaign was frustrating for the hosts. In a repeat of the 2023 final, Erling Haaland, who was seeking his 100th goal for City, was kept under wraps, and Phil Foden, brought on in the second half, also had a muted performance.
