Executive Critiques Aaron Rodgers’ Performance
The New York Jets entered the 2024 season with high expectations for Aaron Rodgers, hoping he would rejuvenate their offense after recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon. However, the former MVP has yet to demonstrate that potential in the early weeks of the season.
In their first two games, the Jets have faced challenges offensively, relying heavily on running backs Breece Hall and Braelon Allen. The duo has combined for 157 rushing yards and two touchdowns, accounting for 29% of the Jets’ total offense, leaving the team with a 1-1 record.
Although Rodgers has shown improvement over last year’s inconsistent quarterback performances, he has not recaptured the form that earned him the MVP award. The 40-year-old has completed 60.8% of his passes for 343 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception, but seems less explosive than in the past.
According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, a league executive has commented on Rodgers’ decline, saying, “He’s more of a point guard distributing at this stage. Not the magician he used to be.”
While the season is still in its early stages, it remains unclear whether Rodgers can regain his ability to create plays on the fly after his injury, and whether the Jets will need him to do so in order to contend in the AFC East.
