Lazio secured a 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona in a thrilling Serie A clash on Monday evening, with all three goals scored within the first 20 minutes at the Stadio Olimpico.
SS Lazio, managed by Marco Baroni, entered the match with a record of one win, one draw, and one loss from their initial three games. Verona, on the other hand, had the opportunity to draw level with Napoli in second place had they emerged victorious.
The action started early when Mattia Zaccagni played a precise ball forward to Boulaye Dia, who controlled it skillfully inside the area before firing a low shot past Verona’s goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò into the near corner of the net, giving Lazio a 1-0 lead after just five minutes.
However, Verona quickly equalized. Diego Coppola threaded a ball through the Lazio defense, catching the center-backs off guard and setting up Casper Tengstedt, who calmly finished past Lazio’s Ivan Provedel to make it 1-1.
Lazio regained their lead just before the 20-minute mark. Zaccagni, who was instrumental throughout the match, provided his second assist of the night from a corner kick. The ball fell to Taty Castellanos, who improvised with a diving volley to score and restore Lazio’s lead.
With this win, Lazio climbed to sixth place in the Serie A standings after four rounds, just one point behind Torino in fifth and Verona, who dropped to seventh.
Full-time score: Lazio 2-1 Verona.
