Miami Hurricanes Set Record with 62-0 Shutout Over Ball State.

Miami Hurricanes Dominate Ball State 62-0 in Historic Shutout

In a record-breaking performance, the Miami Hurricanes achieved their largest shutout victory over an FBS opponent, defeating Ball State 62-0. This surpassed their previous shutout record of 61-0 against Rutgers in 2001.

Quarterback Cam Ward was exceptional, amassing 346 yards and five touchdowns before being replaced early in the second half. This performance helped No. 10 Miami (3-0) outgain Ball State 750-115, setting a new school record for total yards in a game.

Ward has now posted three consecutive 300-yard games to start the season. He connected with Xavier Restrepo for two touchdowns and also threw scoring passes to Jacolby George, Elijah Arroyo, and Chris Johnson Jr.

Ward’s five-touchdown game is the 10th such performance by a Miami quarterback, just shy of the school record of six touchdowns set by Jarren Williams against Louisville in 2019. This game also coincided with the 35th anniversary of Miami’s 1989 national championship team, which featured current head coach Mario Cristobal as a young offensive lineman.

Miami’s scoring continued with Ajay Allen’s 56-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter and Elija Lofton’s 40-yard touchdown catch from Emory Williams later in the game. Jordan Lyle added a rushing touchdown for the Hurricanes.

For Ball State (1-1), Kadin Semonza completed 16 of 26 passes for 111 yards. The Cardinals, now 0-9 against Top 10 teams, were shut out for the first time since a 42-0 loss to Temple in 2011.

Through three games, Ward has accumulated 1,035 yards, 11 touchdowns, and one interception while completing 73% of his passes. Excluding a brief drive to end the first half, Ward played seven series, scoring on five with touchdowns, one with a field goal, and one ending in a punt.
